Flexible Repayment Options You can choose from four different plans to repay your Direct Consolidation Loan, including an Income Contingent Repayment Plan. These plans are flexible to meet the different needs of borrowers. With a Direct Consolidation Loan, you can switch repayment plans at anytime. Grace Period If you consolidate while in-school, you may receive a 6-month grace period before repayment begins.
No Minimum or Maximum Loan Amounts or Fees Direct Consolidation Loans do not exclude anyone based on the size of their loan debt! In addition, consolidation is free. Varied Deferment Options Direct Consolidation Loans offer several deferment options. If you have exhausted the deferment options on your current Federal education loans, a Direct Consolidation Loan could renew those deferment options. In addition, you may be eligible for additional deferment options if you have an outstanding balance on an FFEL made before July 1, 1993, when you obtain your first Direct Loan. Reduced Monthly Payments A Direct Consolidation Loan may lower your monthly payment. The minimum monthly payment on a Direct Consolidation Loan may be lower than the payments on your federal education loans.
Retention of Subsidy Benefits You will keep any subsidies on your old loans.
What are the interest rates on your loans? If a Federal Consolidation Loan offers you a lower rate than your current loans, you may want to consolidate. Currently, the interest rate for a Federal Consolidation Loan is based on the weighted average interest rate on the loans being consolidated, rounded to the next nearest higher one-eighth of one percent. Keeping supersonic transport quiet

It promises to be 100 times quieter than the Concorde with a range of over 4000 nautical miles and a top speed of Mach 1.8, or 1,188 miles per hour. To put this in context – a typical 9.5 hour flight from Seattle to Tokyo in a commercial aircraft would be reduced to under five hours in the QSST.Its patented design makes it possible to fly over populated continental areas with a sonic signature of just 65 DMA, or little louder than the interior of a car traveling at 70mph. This is achieved through a combination of the aerodynamic shaping of the ‘v-tail’ and state-of-the-art engine design to suppress takeoff and landing noise. RAF receive new Hawk training aircraft


The new Hawk Ts will mean pilots can now train on an aircraft with systems closely compatible with the latest front line jets.The new aircraft builds on the success of its long-serving predecessor, but benefits from significant enhancement to bridge any gap with the latest front line jets entering service, such as the Typhoon.Featuring a 'glass' cockpit and the latest advances in radar, weapons and defensive aids simulation, the Hawk T Mk2 is aimed at providing a seamless transition from flying training to operational squadron.Welcoming the arrival of the first jets at RAF Valley in Wales, Minister for Defence Equipment and Support Quentin Davies said:"Delivery of these aircraft is excellent news for the Royal Air Force and for British industry. Building on the success of the Hawk T Mk1, they will enable our pilots to hone the skills required to fly the latest generation of combat aircraft in a state-of-the-art training environment."In addition to the realistic in-flight training environment, the new Hawk benefits from simpler design and construction, leading to lower acquisition and support costs. The craft has been used in Afghanistan since 2007, clocking 3,800 hours and attacking 16 targets with 500-pound bombs and Hellfire missiles.The combination of payload capacity and loiter endurance makes the Reaper highly valuable in Iraq, where it is expected to significantly enhance the strike and close-air-support capabilities of air forces. Finnair's future fleet: flying into the 21st century




To celebrate its 85th anniversary, Finnair has served up a blue-sky vision of what the next 85 years of aviation could hold. Concentrating mainly on potential developments in environmentally friendly technology and lightweight material, the Departure 2093 website lists five aircraft that could grace our sky later this century.
Finnair A600–850 M
The A600-850 M resembles a normal plane that has been squeezed in Photoshop until it takes on the proportions of a dart, complete with needle-thin nose. The plane is described as a “zero-emission supersonic aircraft,” with the speed and efficiency attributed to the super-light nanoceramic material used to construct the fuselage. The design is obviously an extrapolation of the recent trend to use carbon composite materials in aircraft design – however, while they do create lighter and stronger airplanes, a zero-emission vehicle would necessitate drastic changes in the energy used to power aircraft. For the fuel of the future, Finnair nominates three contenders that could make zero-emission planes like the 850 M a reality – solar, biofuel, and hydrogen.
The efficiency of the 850 M is also improved by the partly elastic wings, which adapt to flight speed and weather conditions. Solar panels on the exterior of the plane provide the electricity for passenger amenities, including the very futuristic-sounding 20-inch 3D display.
The description of passenger comfort is predictably Utopic, with intelligent seats monitoring pulse rate, blood pressure and body temperature, as well as giving out free massages. Once again though, the projection has seeds in present-day emerging tech, this time in the field of smart fabrics.
The 126.30m A600-850 M has a wingspan of 60.70m and seats 600-850 passengers. The maximum take-off weight is 310,000kg and the cruising speed is mach 4.5.
Finnair A600-850
Another “zero-emission” aircraft, the A600-850 took its design cues from the ship from The Fantastic Voyage. Like the 850 M, it can fit 600-850 passengers, but is designed for smaller trips. The 81.70m craft has four engines, which can be turned horizontally by 26 degrees and vertically by 55 degrees. The engine configuration is key to the aircraft’s most interesting feature – vertical take off. VTOL is currently a prized feature in military craft, increasing maneoverability and decreasing the amount of space required on the ground. Finnair believes that vertical takeoff will be incorporated into the passenger plane market.
As with the previous hypothetical plane, solar panels cover the outer surface of the 850, and all materials are 100% recyclable. The maximum take-off weight is 322,000kg, the cruising speed is 890km/h, and the maximum cruising level is 13,800m.

Google Earth (GE) was released by Google as a free application in June of 2005. Google describes it briefly as:

On June 12, Google released Google Earth 4 Beta simultaneously for Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux. Gardening


Gardening has to do with the production of food and seeds. Starts with Soil. Where does it come from and how do you keep the soil so it will provide the food plants need to grow? Seeds. Where do seeds come from (yes, they come from plants, but how do farmers and gardeners get all the many seeds they need?). But it also has to do with the management of soil and water. A very important issue that will be in your studies throughout the Expedition. Water, who owns it and how does it get shared. You have to have water to grow food to feed people. Beyond that is the magic and the mytholody of gardening. Many Native American Tribes know the art of Weather Making. We'll study weather in the Global-Garden Expedition. Gardening also has to do with Sustainability. Garden Sustainability (which means making a garden that will be there next year), Community Sustainability, Regional Sustainability, each is conected to the others. The ability to grow food has a lot to do with a community or tribes sustainability. We will study Sustainable Communities and their gardens as we journey through the Global-Garden Expedition.

Real Estate


The real estate sector plays a significant role in the country's economy. The real estate sector is second only to agriculture in terms of employment generation and contributes heavily towards the gross domestic product (GDP). Almost five per cent of the country's GDP is contributed to by the housing sector. In the next five years, this contribution to the GDP is expected to rise to 6 per cent. According to industry players, housing accounts for 4.5 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) with urban housing accounting for 3.13 per cent.
According to Jones Lang LaSalle CEO, Colin Dyer, faster economic growth in Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) could result in the property markets of those nations recovering at a faster rate than the UK and US real estate markets. It has also been suggested that India's property sector could begin to improve from late 2009 and may attract up to US$ 12.11 billion in real estate investment over a five-year period.
Moreover, the real estate sector is also responsible for the development of over 250 ancillary industries such as cement, steel, paints etc. A study by rating agency ICRA shows that the construction industry ranks 3rd among the 14 major sectors in terms of direct, indirect and induced effects in all sectors of the economy. A unit increase in expenditure in this sector has a multiplier effect and the capacity to generate income as high as five times.
Residex, an index planned to benchmark the housing sector and expected to serve as an indicator of property prices, the housing start-up index (HSUI) planned by the Reserve Bank (RBI) of India aims to indicate the volume of construction taking place in a particular location. The RBI also expects to publish the data by March 2010 for every quarter. HSUI would also serve as a lead indicator of the economy's growth as more houses would require more input materials like cement and steel, labour and credit demand.
This index would be useful for developers as it would help know areas of oversupply. They can hence refrain from construction activity in those areas. In case of an oversupply in a particular location, consumers before investing would wait till prices fall.

Electrical Generator


An electrical generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy, generally using electromagnetic induction. The Wimshurst machine used electrostatic induction or "influence". The Van de Graaff generator uses either of two mechanisms:* Charge transferred from a high-voltage electrode * Charge created by the triboelectric effect using the separation of two insulators (the belt leaving the lower pulley)Electrostatic generators are used for scientific experiments requiring high voltages. Because of the difficulty of insulating machines producing very high voltages, electrostatic generators are made only with low power ratings and are never used for generation of commercially-significant quantities of electric power.FaradayPortable generator side view showing gasoline engine.In 1831-1832 Michael Faraday discovered that a potential difference is generated between the ends of an electrical conductor that moves perpendicular to a magnetic field. He also built the first electromagnetic generator called the 'Faraday disc', a type of homopolar generator, using a copper disc rotating between the poles of a horseshoe magnet. It produced a small DC voltage, and large amounts of current.DynamoThe dynamo was the first electrical generator capable of delivering power for industry. The dynamo uses electromagnetic principles to convert mechanical rotation into an alternating electric current. A dynamo machine consists of a stationary structure which generates a strong magnetic field, and a set of rotating windings which turn within that field. On small machines the magnetic field may be provided by a permanent magnet; larger machines have the magnetic field created by electromagnets.The first dynamo based on Faraday's principles was built in 1832 by Hippolyte Pixii, a French instrument maker. It used a permanent magnet which was rotated by a crank. The spinning magnet was positioned so that its north and south poles passed by a piece of iron wrapped with wire. Pixii found that the spinning magnet produced a pulse of current in the wire each time a pole passed the coil. Furthermore, the north and south poles of the magnet induced currents in opposite directions. By adding a commutator, Pixii was able to convert the alternating current to direct current.Unlike the Faraday disc, many turns of wire connected in series can be used in the moving windings of a dynamo. This allows the terminal voltage of the machine to be higher than a disc can produce, so that electrical energy can be delivered at a convenient voltage.The relationship between mechanical rotation and electric current in a dynamo is reversible; the principles of the electric motor were discovered when it was found that one dynamo could cause a second interconnected dynamo to rotate if current was fed through it.Jedlik's dynamoÁnyos Jedlik's single pole electric starter (dynamo) (1861)In 1827, Anyos Jedlik started experimenting with electromagnetic rotating devices which he called electromagnetic self-rotors. In the prototype of the single-pole electric starter (finished between 1852 and 1854) both the stationary and the revolving parts were electromagnetic. He formulated the concept of the dynamo at least 6 years before Siemens and Wheatstone. In essence the concept is that instead of permanent magnets, two electromagnets opposite to each other induce the magnetic field around the rotor.Gramme dynamoBoth of these designs suffered from a similar problem: they induced "spikes" of current followed by none at all. Antonio Pacinotti, an Italian scientist, fixed this by replacing the spinning coil with a toroidal one, which he created by wrapping an iron ring. This meant that some part of the coil was continually passing by the magnets, smoothing out the current. Zénobe Gramme reinvented this design a few years later when designing the first commercial power plants, which operated in Paris in the 1870s. His design is now known as the Gramme dynamo. Various versions and improvements have been made since then, but the basic concept of a spinning endless loop of wire remains at the heart of all modern dynamos.ConceptsThe generator moves an electric current, but does not create electric charge, which is already present in the conductive wire of its windings. It is somewhat analogous to a water pump, which creates a flow of water but does not create the water itself.Other types of electrical generator exist, based on other electrical phenomena such as piezoelectricity, and magnetohydrodynamics. This theorem states that the maximum power can be obtained from the generator by making the resistance of the load equal to that of the generator. However, under this condition the power transfer efficiency is only 50%, which means that half the power generated is wasted as heat inside the generator. For this reason, practical generators are not usually designed to operate at maximum power output, but at a lower power output where efficiency is greater.Low-powerEarly motor vehicles tended to use DC generators with electromechanical regulators. These were not particularly reliable or efficient and have now been replaced by alternators with built-in rectifier circuits. These power the electrical systems on the vehicle and recharge the battery after starting. Rated output will typically be in the range 50-100 A at 12 V, depending on the designed electrical load within the vehicle - some cars now have electrically-powered steering assistance and air conditioning, which places a high load on the electrical system. Commercial vehicles are more likely to use 24 V to give sufficient power at the starter motor to turn over a large diesel engine without the requirement for unreasonably thick cabling. Vehicle alternators usually do not use permanent magnets; they can achieve efficiencies of up to 90% over a wide speed range by control of the field voltage. Motorcycle alternators often use permanent magnet stators made with rare earth magnets, since they can be made smaller and lighter than other types.Some of the smallest generators commonly found are used to power bicycle lights. These tend to be 0.5 A permanent-magnet alternators, supplying 3-6 W at 6 V or 12 V. Being powered by the rider, efficiency is at a premium, so these may incorporate rare-earth magnets and be designed and manufactured with great precision. Nevertheless, the maximum efficiency is only around 60% for the best of these generators - 40% is more typical - due to the use of permanent magnets. A battery would be required in order to use a controllable electromagnetic field instead, and this is unacceptable due to its weight and bulk.Aircraft have also switched from DC generators to alternators; these are typically powered by a takeoff from an engine.Sailing yachts may use a water or wind powered generator to trickle-charge the batteries. Many units are equipped with a battery and electric starter. The smaller units tend to use gasoline (petrol) as a fuel, and the larger ones have various fuel types, including diesel, natural gas and propane (liquid or gas).When using engine-generators, you must be aware of the quality of the electrical wave it outputs. This is particularly important when running sensitive electronic equipment. A power conditioner can take the square waves generated by many engine-generators and smooth it out by running it through a battery in the middle of the circuit. Using an inverter rather than a generator may also produce clean sinusoidal waves. There are several quiet running inverters available that produce clean sinusoidal wave power suitable for use with computers and other sensitive electronics, however some low cost inverters do not produce clean sinusoidal waves and may damage certain electronic charging equipment.Engine-generators are often used to supply electrical power in places where utility power is not available and in situations where power is needed only temporarily. Small generators are sometimes used to supply power tools at construction sites. Trailer-mounted generators supply power for lighting, amusement rides etc. for traveling carnivals.Standby power generators are permanently installed and kept ready to supply power to critical loads during temporary interruptions of the utility power supply. Trailer-mounted generators can be towed to disaster areas where grid power has been temporarily disrupted.The generator can also be driven by the human muscle power (for instance, in the field radio station equipment).Mid-size stationary engine-generatorThe mid-size stationary engine-generator pictured here is a 100 kVA set which produces 415 V at around 110 A per phase. It's powered by a 6.7 litre turbocharged Perkins Phaser 1000 Series engine, and consumes approximately 27 litres of fuel an hour, on a 400 litre tank. Stationary generators used in the US are used in size up to 2800 kW. These diesel engines are run in the UK on red diesel and rotate at 1500 rpm. This produces power at 50 Hz, which is the frequency used in the UK. In areas where the power frequency is 60 Hz (United States), generators rotate at 1800 rpm or another even multiple of 60. Diesel engine-generator sets operated at their best efficiency point can produce between 3 and 4 kilowatthours of electrical energy for each litre of diesel fuel consumed, with lower efficiency at part load .

The world economy can be evaluated in various ways, depending on the model used, and this valuation can then be represented in various ways (for example, in 2006 US dollars). It is inseparable from the geography and ecology of Earth, and is therefore somewhat of a misnomer, since, while definitions and representations of the "world economy" vary widely, they must at a minimum exclude any consideration of resources or value based outside of the Earth. For example, while attempts could be made to calculate the value of currently unexploited mining opportunities in unclaimed territory in Antarctica, the same opportunities on Mars would not be considered a part of the world economy – even if currently exploited in some way – and could be considered of latent value only in the same way as uncreated intellectual property, such as a previously unconceived invention. Beyond the minimum standard of concerning value in production, use, and exchange on the planet Earth, definitions, representations, models, and valuations of the world economy vary widely.It is common to limit questions of the world economy exclusively to human economic activity, and the world economy is typically judged in monetary terms, even in cases in which there is no efficient market to help valuate certain goods or services, or in cases in which a lack of independent research or government cooperation makes establishing figures difficult. His asking price is $125 million and the offer was made by Steve Schwarzman, who just led the IPO for Blackstone.It seems as though Donald Trump is looking for the publicity in this Real Estate venture, and therefore, the timing is not as important as the money. In fact, some say that his target is selling the Real Estate for not less than $100 million and he's willing to wait to get it. In fact, selling a Real Estate property for more than $100 million, will get him worldwide press and coverage, which is what the Trump brand is really after...As WSJ.com informs:"Mr. Schwarzman, Blackstone’s $7 billion man, made a $90 million offer in recent months for Maison de l’Amitie , the Palm Beach estate that’s being sold by Donald Trump, according to people familiar with the offer. Yet Mr. Trump rejected the bid, saying the price was too low, these people said. The house is listed for $125 million. People close to the situation say Mr. Trump rejected the offer quickly, since he wants to get at least $100 million for the place.“He wants to hit the magic number of $100 million,”says one Palm Beach realtor.“Getting the price is more important to him than selling it quickly.”Mr. Trump, in a rare moment of media silence, declined comment.
